Pediatric Imaging Center

The Children’s Medical Fund Center for Pediatric Diagnostic Studies is a state-of-the-art imaging facility—located at Cohen Children’s Medical Center—focused specifically on accommodating children who need magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This is one of the only dedicated pediatric MRI centers in the New York metropolitan region.

The facility is staffed by experts in pediatric imaging, as well as onsite pediatric anesthesiologists and nurses skilled in providing sedation. The center boasts two innovative MRI machines (3T and 1.5 T units) that offer the most sophisticated imaging possible. The groundbreaking technology allows physicians to see different characteristics of the organ or bodily tissue that is being studied, providing a more multidimensional view of a tumor, abnormality or injury. This is especially useful for our pediatric specialists in oncology, orthopedics, neurology, neurosurgery and cardiology. The protective doors of each MRI room were designed with patient IV tube pass-through; these small holes, built directly into the door frames, allow metal IV stands to stay outside the rooms—and away from the powerful magnets.

• The MRI machines have motion-correction software, so tests don’t need to be repeated if a child flinches or shifts.
• The exam is performed more effectively and efficiently, shortening the duration of testing for children.
• Children get to watch movies during their examination via special MRI goggles.
• Our child life specialists can explain the exam in age-appropriate language to your child and offer them extra support.
