About us

Surgery of any kind is scary for children. Thanks to advancements in surgical treatment, a minimally invasive approach is now available for many young patients. Requiring smaller instruments and fewer incisions than traditional surgical methods, minimally invasive surgery offers many advantages over conventional surgery, including:

  • Reduced blood loss
  • Fewer visible signs of the procedure
  • Less postoperative pain
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Faster recovery

At Cohen Children’s Medical Center, we offer the most advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques for infants, children, adolescents and young adults. In fact, no other medical center in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut offers the breadth and scope of pediatric minimally invasive surgery that is available here.

Our surgical team has extensive expertise in pediatric minimally invasive surgery through small ports inserted through keyhole-size incisions. Using a tiny camera, called an endoscope, that is placed through the ports, the surgeon can obtain a high definition image inside the body. Additional surgical instruments are adapted for a child’s smaller body to minimize injury to tissue.
