Our physicians and nurses have extensive pediatric emergency training and can expertly treat injuries and illnesses across the various medical disciplines and specialty departments. We know how to safely and compassionately treat young patients who are hurt, sick, upset, scared and anxious. We have the region’s only free-standing emergency department exclusively devoted to treating children, and we are a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center. We also have a state-of-the-art pediatric diagnostic imaging center with X-ray, low dose CAT (CT) scan and bedside ultrasound available, and we have a dedicated pediatric pharmacy. For your convenience, we offer private rooms, free WI-Fi and free valet parking.
What to expect
Most patients are seen for treatment almost immediately after arriving, with little to no wait time. During busier times, your child will be evaluated by an intake and triage nurse who will determine the order your child should be seen in; the most critical cases are seen first. Once in the treatment area, your child will be met by a medical team which may consist of the following:
- Pediatric emergency medicine attending physician
- Pediatric or emergency medicine resident or fellow
- Nurse practitioners who are specifically trained in the specialty of pediatric emergency medicine are also available to expedite your child's care and are often able to independently evaluate and treat many emergencies
- Primary care nurse
Your child’s nurse will take a brief medical history and check vital signs to assess the severity of your child’s illness. If needed, your medical provider will order the necessary tests and determine the best course of treatment. If it's necessary to admit your child to the hospital, our team of hospitalists and subspecialists will work together to focus on your child’s needs. Your pediatrician will also be notified of your child’s visit and provided with any follow-up recommendations if necessary. If you child’s follow-up requires a specialist, we will assist in making those arrangements.

Please note that a quick registration is completed either in the patient care area or in the waiting area. We will ask for:

The registrar will give your child an ID wristband. A complete registration will be completed during their stay in the emergency department.
