About us

Millions of American children are overweight. In fact, a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that more than one third of children and adolescents in the U.S. are overweight or obese. If your child is struggling with weight issues, don't be discouraged – they are not alone. The POWER Kids Weight Management Program at Cohen Children’s is a multidisciplinary weight management program for children and adolescents contending with significant weight gain and obesity. POWER Kids is a supportive program that is based on establishing healthy nutritional goals and physical health objectives with a major focus on:

  • Creating inspiration and increasing motivation
  • Positively modifying behavior
  • Improving lifestyle choices to impact long-term success and change
  • Attaining a healthy body mass index (BMI)

Our approach to tackling pediatric and adolescent overweight/obesity issues

One-to-one medical care and personal nutritional counseling, as well as healthy doses of information and education, helps kids in the program create a vision for their own healthier eating plan and how to attain a more physically active lifestyle. We use nationally recognized principles to educate our participants and their families, such as Let’s Move, 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go and ChooseMyPlate.gov.

What sets us apart

POWER Kids can be found on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter! Knowing that participants benefit from constructive social media content, positive reinforcement and large doses of support, we have expanded our presence on social media. We post information, inspiration, motivation and resources, as well as everyday tools POWER Kids can use. Healthy recipes, useful tips, video demonstrations and links to articles and blogs on healthy eating are posted frequently. Daily motivational tips through our “POWER Vations” on Facebook provide an added layer of encouragement. Pictures posted on Instagram steer participants in the direction of good health. Trending topics in nutrition, exercise and health, as well as links to expert advice, are showcased on our Twitter news feed. Our participants stay connected to us between follow-up sessions by receiving well needed support and information.
