Comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care
At the Division of Pediatric Nutrition our goals include nutritional counseling for families, as well as diagnosis and management of children with specific nutritional disorders. Our diagnostic and therapeutic procedures include indirect calorimetry to assess metabolic requirements, lactose breathing testing and nutritional support, including home perinatal nutrition, nasogastric tube and gastrostomy tube feedings. Patients are seen at the Cohen Children’s Specialty Care Center at Lake Success and also at Specialty Care Centers in Commack, Hewlett, Flushing and Brooklyn. Appointments are made through the main office.
At your first appointment, your child will be seen by the physician and one of the trained GI nurses or nutritionists. Blood testing, if needed, can be done at the time of the office visit. Specific treatments can be prescribed, or additional testing scheduled, based on the assessment of the examining physician. If more testing is required, you can speak with the nurses in the GI Endoscopy unit regarding scheduling and preparation.
