Surgical co-management
All of our surgical hospitalists are board-certified pediatricians with a focus in hospital medicine. Surgical hospitalists are available for pediatric consultation for general surgery and medical subspecialty patients. They are responsible for co-managing all surgical patients who are admitted to the hospital for longer than 24 hours. They care for patients spanning many surgical specialties, including:
- Neurosurgery
- Urology
- Orthopedics
- Plastic surgery
- Ear, nose and throat (ENT)
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS or OMFS)
- Gynecology
Surgical hospitalists also participate in family-centered rounding in collaboration with the surgeon, bedside nurse and child life therapist. Joint family-centered rounding improves communication between clinical providers and patients and families. Surgical hospitalists contribute meaningfully to improving patient care, patient outcomes and satisfaction for surgical patients.
