Newborn care
Newborns require special care and attention. At Cohen Children's, we employ full-time, board-certified attending pediatricians with special expertise in caring for babies in the newborn nursery. These dedicated doctors provide comprehensive, high-quality medical care for your newborn baby, from delivery through discharge from the nursery.
Our services include:
- Complete physical examination of newborn upon admission to the nursery and again on the day of discharge
- Daily assessment of newborn
- Management of newborns with common problems, such as jaundice and breastfeeding issues
- We also support new mothers and families with education regarding newborn care, breastfeeding and anticipatory guidance
We care for a wide range of patients, including infants of non-Northwell affiliated pediatricians, as well as infants of pediatricians who have selected the hospitalist group to see their nursery patients on a permanent basis. Your pediatrician may request the hospital nursery to care for your newborn. Upon discharge, we'll communicate with your pediatrician to ensure seamless care for your new baby.
In addition to their clinical work, our nursery hospitalists are responsible for educating medical students and pediatric residents who do clinical rotations in the nursery. They also conduct clinical and quality improvement research and participate in year-round continuing medical education courses.
