About us
Cohen Children’s Transfusion Therapy and Iron Overload Treatment Group offers state-of-the-art evaluation and treatment of patients receiving chronic transfusion therapy and those with transfusion-related or unrelated iron overload. We specialize in providing protocols for severely iron overloaded patients who are at risk for organ failure or who have already begun experiencing symptoms of organ failure.
We treat patients with the following disorders:
- Bone marrow failure
- Hemoglobinopathies
- Genetic or acquired iron overload
- Cancer survivors with iron overload
Our treatment group provides consultation on initiating transfusion and chelation treatment, intensifying treatment and decreasing treatment for patients with iron overload, as well as multidisciplinary treatment of patients with organ injury due to iron overload.
Research
Our specialists are active in research concerning rapid chelation for patients with advanced iron overload, as well as reversal of iron damage in advanced iron overload.
