Diabetes patient education
About diabetes
Diabetes is a lifelong condition that often requires medication, careful glucose monitoring and maintaining a healthy diet.
Our approach
Cohen Children’s provides intensive and continuous diabetes education for patients, family members, school/hospital nurses and other health professionals. Our primary goal is to help them understand the nature of diabetes and how to manage and cope with it while still enjoying a full, happy life.
We teach patients about the latest technological advancements in diabetes—including insulin pumps, pens and continuous glucose monitoring systems—so they can optimize blood sugar control and achieve a healthy life balance. We also offer age-appropriate support and counseling with optional supplementary evening classes for patients ages 1 through 18 and their families. We place particular emphasis on pre-adolescents and teens as they begin to assume more independence.
The programs we offer are closely aligned with the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) Pediatric Diabetes Education Center’s program, as well as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) guidelines.
