About us

Heart or lung surgery is scary at any age, but particularly for children, as well as their families. However, the good news is that pediatric cardiothoracic surgery is safer and more effective than ever. In fact, many young patients lead healthy, normal lives following surgery.

At the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, we provide the most advanced heart and lung surgical procedures for infants, children, teens and adults with congenital heart disease.

Specialties

Pediatric cardiothoracic surgeries offered include:

  • Transposition of the great arteries
  • Ventricular septal defect repair
  • Atrial septal defect repair
  • Valve repair
  • Repair of a previous heart surgery
  • Adult congenital heart disease

Each year, the Cohen Children’s Heart Center provides more than 14,000 inpatient and outpatient visits at the main campus and specialty care centers throughout the region. Our patients have access to state-of-the-art noninvasive imaging modalities which include:

  • Fetal echocardiograms
  • Transthoracic 2-dimensional
  • 3-dimensional and transesophageal (TEE) echocardiograms
  • Cardiac MRI
  • Low dose cardiac CT

Heart rhythm disorders can be diagnosed and assessed by standard ECG or 24-hours Holter monitors, as well as event and loop monitors. When appropriate, cardiac diagnostic catheterization, intervention, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology/ablation are available.
