About us
The Ambulatory Surgery Center at Cohen Children’s Medical Center is a “same day surgery unit” that enables your child to undergo surgery for many problems without the necessity of an overnight stay in the hospital. This spares your child the discomfort of hospitalization and permits healing at home.
An educational visit several days prior to the procedure allows you and your child to become familiar with the facility and to learn what to expect on the big day. This helps reduce your child’s fears on the day of surgery. Parents are encouraged to be with their child as much as possible. A parent is almost always allowed to be present in the operating room during induction of anesthesia. Children are brought to the pediatric recovery room and parents see them shortly after their arrival. After recovery, children are usually home by the afternoon.
